Melanie is a Sunshine Coast-based writer, editor, academic, and occasional actor. She is a graduate of QUT’s acting program and has a Master of Communication from the University of the Sunshine Coast where she teaches creative writing and drama. She is currently doing a DCA in Creative Writing. She has been published in the Kill Your Darlings, Overland, Arena Magazine, Sunshine Coast Daily, WQ Magazine, Mamamia, the Brisbane Times and various trade publications. Her short story ‘Trailer Trash’ received a special commendation at the 19th Scarlet Stiletto Awards in 2012 and in 2014 she won the Political Edge Award at the 21st Scarlet Stiletto Awards for her short story ‘Savage Women’.

Melanie was Artistic Director of Reality Bites Festival from 2012 – 2014. In 2013 she realised a life-long ambition to play Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar Named Desire. She once appeared on The Einstein Factor based on her extensive and obsessive knowledge of all things Vivien Leigh.
